Fireworks at Forest Hall School

Fireworks at Forest Hall School

We are excited to announce that this November Stansted Mountfitchet will have its first fireworks show in five years.

The event is to be held at the playing fields of Forest Hall School on Saturday, November 9th.

Award-winning fireworks

An award-winning fireworks company has been hired to produce the event.

Selstar Fireworks, who lit up the skies over Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee celebrations in 2022, are set to the village display to music.

Burger and hot dog stalls, and a bar will be laid on, and soft drinks and coffee vendors hired.

Buying tickets

Tickets bought in advance at Eventbrite range from £4 for children 5-15, £8 for over 16s, and £20 for a family of 4.

On the gate prices are slightly higher: £5 for 5-15yos, £10 for the over-16s and £25 for a family of 4.

Proceeds will go to local charities and a donation made to Forest Hall School

Up to £4,000 has been set aside by the Parish Council to cover event costs.

Private sponsorship has also been sought by organisers to fund the fireworks and to keep ticket prices down.

First display in five years

Forest Hall School hosted the last Guy Fawkes celebration back in 2019.

But the trust that runs the local secondary school withdrew its support in 2021 citing safety concerns. The Covid-19 pandemic magnified their worries.

Finding an alternative venue has proved difficult.

Elms Farm and the Rec were touted as options. Both proved to be non-starters. They either lack space, are too close to homes, or nearby trees pose a fire risk.

Successful talks

The Parish Council and the Stansted Business Forum spent the last 3 months working to bring fireworks back to Forest Hall School.

Members of the Forum and the Parish Council are governors at the school and on the Economic Development Group.

Talks between the Economic Development Group and the Burnt Mill Academy Trust culminated this summer in permission being granted for an event.

Parish Council Chair Maureen Caton said: “We would very much like to thank the Trust and the Economic Development Group for helping us deliver a Guy Fawkes night for residents in 2024. We hope lots of people come out to join us on November 9th. We will be one of the few local villages to have their own fireworks night after all.”
