Allotments

Allotments

The Parish Council currently has one allotment site on Elms Farms, established in 2019. Another site at Walpole Meadows will be managed by the Parish Council once it has been transferred to the Council from the developers.

The Elms Farm Allotment site currently has 59 plots, including two community plots and a bee plot. The community plots are run by Human Roots and Men’s Shed Stansted.

Walpole Meadows has 14 plots ready for new tenants, including one community plot. All plots have been allocated.

The Parish Council is responsible for all the admin of the allotments, including inspections taking place five times per year. We also deal with complaints and mediation between tenants.

Applying for an allotment

Any resident interested in an allotment in Stansted, can be added to one or both of our waiting lists for Elms Farm and Walpole Meadows. Please email the allotment officer on or call the office on 01279 813214 to be added. Please provide the following information:

Full Name

Address (allotments are only offered to residents of Stansted Mountfitchet)

Email and phone number best to reach you on.

All personal data will be stored by Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council and will not be shared with other parties. We will remove you from the list(s) and delete your personal information upon request.

Please inform us if your contact details change or if you move away from Stansted. Our allotment plots are reserved for residents of Stansted Mountfitchet only.

If you already have a Parish Council allotment plot you are not eligible to go on the waiting list. This is to ensure other interested residents are prioritised.

If you are on the waiting list for both sites and are offered a plot, you will not be able to remain on the waiting list. Please consider carefully which allotment site you prefer before accepting.

On Elms Farms allotments we have a current wait time of approx. 6.5 years. It is difficult to predict the number of plots becoming available each year, so this is only an estimate. On Walpole Meadows we expect a similar wait time.

If you are offered a plot, you will be invited to an introduction meeting with the Allotment Officer, introducing you to the allotment Tenancy Agreement and showing you the available plot.

Costs

We only offer half plots, approx. 12.5mx10m.

Half plot, annual cost from £50

Some plots are slightly bigger, with a proportionate surcharge.

The annual fee includes water.

Initial, one-off admin fee £50

Annual Renewal Process

Each year tenants sign an updated allotment tenancy agreement, accepting any revised terms and conditions. This is required to continue as a tenant. A draft tenancy agreement is sent out to tenants one year in advance.

If you wish to see a copy of the current tenancy agreement, please email the Parish Council.

Complaints

If you have any complaints relating to the allotments, please email or call the office on 01279 813214

Allotment Associations

Elms Farm Allotments Association is a voluntary association working closely with the Parish Council to improve the allotment site. EFAA’s main purpose is to ensure a thriving allotment community and raise any issues with the Parish Council. The EFAA meets quarterly.

The EFAA chair is Richard Haywood, who also runs The Men’s Shed Community plot.

If you are a tenant of Elms Farm allotments and wish to join the EFAA or have anything to raise, please contact the Parish Council.
