Coronation Celebrations

Coronation Celebrations

Thousands turned out to the Recreation Ground at the weekend to celebrate the King’s coronation.

It had been touch and go leading up to our Coronation Event. Weather forecasts had threatened to rain on our parade. But instead, we were blessed with sunshine and thousands of you joined us at the Recreation Ground on Sunday, May 7 to celebrate King Charles III’s coronation. And what a day we had.

Caterers Giggly Pig, the Little Bagel Box, and Bill’s Seafood appeared to enjoy plenty of custom, and the ice cream van saw a long, happy queue of customers eager to lick a cold iced lolly on the hottest day of the weekend. It was nice to see some traditions going strong – the W.I.’s tent offering up cream teas proved a hit, as always.

There was plenty of live music action with our line-up of the Flying Symbols, Jay, Shorelines and Dan Hope keeping everyone’s feet tapping!

The tug-of-war saw crowds gather to cheer four teams compete for medals and bragging rights, with Team Stansted emerging as overall winners. Congratulations!

We would like to thank everyone for turning out to celebrate the King’s Coronation and making it such a memorable day. Special mentions also to the team of hard-working volunteers who ensured stall-holders got their breaks, kids’ wristbands were issued, and stages and stalls were set up and packed up by the end of the day.

Finally, the Parish Council would like to express its appreciation to Dot Salmon, who stepped in to man the vintage postcard display in the Mountfitchet Exchange at the last minute, and we wish John a speedy recovery.
