Grass Cuts

Areas kept around the village by Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council are cut twice-monthly.

A list at the bottom of this page details areas around the village maintained by SMPC.

You can bring to the attention of SMPC areas of the village where you believe a cut has been missed using the contact information at the bottom of this page.

Hedge Maintenance

You can bring to the attention of SMPC areas where a hedge needs cutting back by using the contact information at that the bottom of this page

The Parish Council is not permitted to cut hedges under its management from 1 March to July 31 each year. This is to ensure compliance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which defines this period as bird nesting season.

Trees

You can report a tree that you believe may either be a risk to public health and safety, or is in danger of damaging property, to SMPC using the contact information at that the bottom of this page.

Our tree warden will undertake an inspection before advising the Parish Council on the need to employ the service of a arboriculturist.

The health and vitality of our tree stock is professionally assessed once every three years. The last such review was completed in 2021.

Who is responsible for maintaining the village’s open spaces?

Caring for the open spaces, hedgerows and verges in Stansted Mountifitchet is a shared responsibility:

  • Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council
  • Essex Highways
  • Uttlesford District Council
  • Property management companies (Walpole Meadows & parts of Forest Hall Park)

At Mountfitchet Green the play area grass is cut by SMPC. The rest of the green is cut by Uttlesford District Council. Cuts to the verges around Mountfitchet Green are shared between the two authorities. At Walpole Meadows the green spaces are kept by the property management company assigned by developer Bloor Homes
