Councillors at this week’s Highways sub-committee meeting voted for an official letter of complaint to be sent to the head of Essex County Council.
The step comes on the back of repeated failures by the county council to respond to requests from the Parish Council to take action to resolve highways problems around Stansted.
You can read the letter from SPMC to the leader of Essex County Council, Cllr Kevin Bentley.
Letter of complaint
Dear Cllr Bentley
Once again my Council feels compelled to write to you to complain about lack of communication from the Cabinet Member for Highways.
Back in April, we sent the attached email to Cllr Cunningham but have received no response.
Whilst we understand that Cllr Cunningham is a very busy person, we cannot believe that he does not have any administrative support within County Hall to deal with his correspondence.
As discourteous as the lack of response is, our complaint is more about the health and safety issue of the lack of white lines at a very busy junction in Stansted.
The mini roundabout at the junction of Chapel Hill/Lower Street/Church Road/Station Road has now disappeared. The lines on all of our zebra crossings are in a similar poor state.
Cllr Cunningham witnessed the lack of roundabout for himself when he attended a meeting here in December and commented that it was a danger – 6 months on and still the work has not been done.
We have reported the issue online several times, as have members of the public, and raised it again with Cllr Cunningham in April. The dangers, and near misses, are frequently reported on the village social media pages.
My members would be grateful to receive your reply, together with a full response from Cllr Cunningham – to include the date that the remedial works will be carried out – within 10 days.
With thanks for your assistance
Parish Councillor Maureen Caton
