Extra time for awards nominations

Extra time for awards nominations

You now have until the end of August to put forward the name of someone who you believe is deserving of one of the Uttlesford District Council’s Community Achievements Awards.

This is because the District Council has decided to push back the original nomination deadline of August 7th to allow you more time to nominate individuals for the fantastic voluntary work they do in our area.

The deadline is now Thursday, September 18th.

However to allow the Parish Council, which is asked by the award organisers to submit nominees for Stansted, to meet this deadline we need you to get the names of people you wish to be considered for an award before this date.

Nominations by August 28th

Under the rules for the awards, Town and Parish Councils, local secondary schools, and Uttlesford Community Action Network can all field nominations from members of the public.

Once they have considered the individuals proposed, these organisations can put forward a maximum of four nominees to Uttlesford District Council.

At our Full Council meeting on July 30th, Parish Councillors signed off the nominations of three individuals put to them by members of the public. This means there remains room to add one more name to the list.

Space for one more

So the Parish Council has time to write the necessary commendation for each nominee, we ask that you submit names of nominees to us by Thursday, 28th August.

Councillors will have the opportunity to consider any proposed names for this last space at the Full Council meeting on Wednesday, 3rd September.

How to nominate

To propose a person for a Community Achievement Award in Stansted, use the online form on Uttlesford District Council’s website:

Then send your completed form to the Parish Council.

Under the awards rules, SMPC needs to check that the individual is happy to be proposed and that they meet the criteria for an award.

Who can win an award?

  • Volunteers (though some paid work is permitted)
  • Volunteers who work mainly in Uttlesford
  • Volunteers who have 5 years voluntary experience*

Five award categories

People can pick up an award for their outstanding contribution in working with:

  • children and young people up to 18 years of age
  • the elderly
  • people with assisted living needs (physical/sensory and learning)
  • the local community
  • youth initiatives; nominations for young people (aged 15-18) who have contributed significantly to their local community.* Nominees for this category need not have 5 years of voluntary experience

How are awards chosen?

There is no voting in the Community Achievement Awards.

SMPC simply passes on a list of nominees to Uttlesford District Council.

Then nominees from across Uttlesford for each of the five categories are reviewed by the district council’s community achievement panel, which then settles of the best candidate for each award.

Award ceremony

Those chose for an award get a certificate signed by the Chair of Uttlesford District Council. Up to 2 representatives from the group may also be invited to attend the awards ceremony.
