When will the roadworks start?

The dates of roadworks reflect those on the permit issued by Essex Highways to a company or authority intending to carryout roadworks.

When roadworks actually start can depend on the company and specifically their team on site digging up the carriageway.

Permits tell a company or authority when they can start the work and when they must be finished by. Essex Highways says roadworks can begin prior to the date on a permit, but only by a few days or so. This is because a company may be unable to get a new permit with an amended date issued in time. So a degree of latitude is permitted in this regard.

Also, roadworks can start and end at any point between the permit dates. For example if roadworks are scheduled from June 1st until June 30th, a highway could stay open until a roadworks team turn up and decide to start digging, be that on June 2nd or June 22nd.

However, a closure can not extend beyond an authorised date unless they submit a request for a new permit.

Public complaints can sometimes prompt Essex Highways to adjust dates of roadworks.
