Residents are being warned they face not having their bins emptied if they mess up on the recycling front.
Uttlesford District Council say in an effort to reduce rubbish being sent to landfill, bins reserved for recycling found to contain non-recycled items inside will be left aside by refuse teams.
Hanger warning
Instead they will identify the bin by attaching bin hanger to it. The hanger will identifying the offending items the bin’s owner will be expected to remove if the bin is to be emptied on the crew’s next refuse round.
Items such as black plastic sacks, nappies, food waste, polystyrene or garden waste, if left in bin reserved for rubbish to be recycled, can result in a whole lorry load of recycling being spoiled.
A refuse team will then have little choice but to send the mixed contents to landfill.
To prevent this from happening, the district council are asking residents to double check they are using the right bin fro the correct waste before putting the bins out for collection.
