Flood Alert for Stansted Area

Flood Alert for Stansted Area

A flood alert warning is currently in place for the Stansted area.

The flood alert from the Environment Agency highlights the potential for flooding. This is as opposed to a flood warning, which means flooding to some property is expected.

The alert is one of hundreds published by the Environment Agency following Storm Darragh battering the UK over the weekend.

The alert – first issued yesterday and updated on Monday morning – warns river levels are high on the Stort following heavy rainfall over the last 3 days.

It states no property flooding is currently expected but flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Stort; Stansted Brook; Pishiobury Brook, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected.

Among these are areas near Lawrence Moorings (Sheering Mill Lane); Italstyle Industrial Estate; Highlands Farm and The Old Cottage.

Flood threat to recede this afternoon

The expectation is for river levels to start falling again on Monday afternoon and the risk of flooding to reduce.

You are advised to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.

Sandbags & flood wardens

Flood wardens are keeping an eye on the levels of Stansted Brook.

If you are worried about possible flooding, we have a small supply of sandbags outside the Mountfitchet Exchange at 72 Chapel Hill.
