Street Naming Policy

Policies Uploaded on October 5, 2023

Adopted by the Council on 4th October 2023

Purpose

To set a framework for Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council to appropriately respond to street naming consultations.

Responsibilities

As explained in Uttlesford District Council (UDC) Street Naming Policy, UDC is the authority responsible for the administration of the street naming and numbering processes.

Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council can respond to street naming consultations and make suggestions, but it is not the deciding authority.

In some developments the developer might make road name suggestions, or it is sometimes left open for the Parish Council to suggest names.

Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council as a consultee

On receipt of a street naming consultation the Full Council will make appropriate recommendations and comments to UDC. The Council’s suggested street names should be

  • Old field names
  • Other relevant geographical names or other names having a local significance
  • Or in exceptional circumstances names of deceased individuals who have lived in or supported Stansted Mountfitchet, recognising that there need to be clear reasons for such a choice over any other individuals.

To note

This policy should be read in conjunction with the adopted UDC Street Naming Policy. A copy can be found online at https://www.uttlesford.gov.uk/article/5250/Plans-policies-and-strategies
